What You'll Do
Reporting to the Site Supervisor, the role of Journeyperson PSE/Electrician is to perform maintenance, upgrading and installation of equipment in 13.8kV to 500 kV substations. Under this role the Journeyperson PSE/Electrician reads and interprets drawings, blueprints and electrical code specifications. The Journeyperson PSE/Electrician is also responsible for planning layout and illustration of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures based on specifications. The Journeyperson PSE/Electrician inspects electrical systems, components and equipment to identify defects and to ensure compliance with codes. This is a senior role which requires performance evaluation, coaching mentoring and training of PSE/Electrician Apprentices
Responsibilities
- Installation, troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance of different electrical systems, faulty equipment and apparatus including transformers, circuit breakers, switches, switchgears, instrument transformers, relays and other related equipment (500kV, 240kV, 144kV, 69kV, 25kV, 13.8kV).
- Installation of structural steel, installation of buried utilities.
- Operation of construction equipment such as skid steer, mini hoe, manlifts, and zoombooms.
- Comply with Rising Edge Technologies Ltd.'s Health and Safety Manual and industry safety regulations.
- Provide leadership, supervision, mentoring and training to PSE/Electrical Apprentices in understanding, identifying and resolving technical issues. Assist PSE/Electrician Apprentices with the day to day activities involved with substation construction including working in a safe and quality manner.
- Responsible for Inspection and testing of high voltage electrical equipment installed in a substation. Ensure test and maintenance reports are maintained and completed at all times
- Lead installation and facilitate planning of ground grids, assembly of power system equipment, cabling and wiring
- Perform and facilitate substation equipment maintenance according to company and industry standards
- Adhere to Rising Edge Technologies Ltd.'s safety policies and safe work procedures and be familiar with the potential hazards of working near energized equipment.
Additional Information
This position is designated as safety-sensitive making employment contingent upon the successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, as well as criminal and general background checks.
Requirements
What We're Looking For
- Valid and recognized Power Systems Electrician Journeyperson or Journeyperson Electrician Certificate
- Minimum of 5 years of work experience as a PSE/Electrician with at least 2 years of experience working in substations required
- Thorough knowledge of the Alberta Electrical Utility Code (A.E.U.C Safety Codes Act) and Occupational Health and Safety rules as they relate to the PSE/Electrician role
- Have a valid Alberta Provincial Class 5 driver's license with an acceptable driving record
- Experience with Microsoft Windows, Office and computer-based test equipment would be an asset
- Must meet pre-access Drug & Alcohol testing requirements
- Must be able to work comfortably at heights
- Ability and willingness to work out of town
- Able to travel including travelling to remote sites.
- Able to work in adverse weather conditions.
- Dedicated to a respectful work environment and teamwork with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrate problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to work within strict deadlines.
- Must show that you can work in a safe manner with respect to the environment, health and safety issues in the work place.
Schedule & Compensation
- Schedule rotations range from 4 days on / 3 days off or 8 days on / 6 days off, or 14 days on/ 7 days off
- Standard workdays are 10 hours (7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.)
- Overtime paid at time and a half after 10 hours per day and 40 hours per week
- Out-of-town work includes either LOA and individual accommodations or all-inclusive camp accommodations (project dependent)
