Information Technology – Summer Student (Temporary)
Term:
May – August 2026: Approximately 16 weeks (1 position)
Medicine Hat Public School Division is seeking
one (1) temporary Summer Student
to support our Technology Department. This role is a great fit for a motivated post-secondary student interested in gaining hands-on experience in IT support within a busy K–12 environment. You'll work alongside our IT Technicians assisting with day-to-day operations, device deployments, troubleshooting, and technology maintenance across the division.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist IT Technicians with daily support tasks and service requests.
- Support device setup, imaging, and deployments (e.g., laptops/Chromebooks and peripherals).
- Help with software installs, updates, and basic configuration on Windows and/or ChromeOS devices.
- Perform routine maintenance (inventory tagging, cable management, basic hardware checks, swaps/replacements).
- Provide basic troubleshooting support (connectivity issues, printing, peripherals, account/access issues as directed).
- Assist with technology upgrades and summer project work (classroom/office refreshes, lab setups, move/add/change tasks).
- Maintain clear notes and updates in tracking systems and follow established procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least one year of related post-secondary education (preference will be given to applicants who meet this).
- Interest in IT support, systems, networking, cybersecurity, or education technology.
- Familiarity with one or more of: Windows, ChromeOS, Microsoft 365/Google Workspace, basic networking concepts.

- Comfortable learning new tools quickly and working independently when needed.
- Ability to handle equipment safely (lifting/moving devices as required).
Working conditions
- Work is performed in schools and division sites and may involve driving between locations and handling IT equipment.
- A successful candidate will be expected to follow division policies and confidentiality expectations.
