Established in 1976 the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) is a First Nation governed post-secondary institution. Nature and Scope

Instructors report directly to their respective Program Coordinators. Programs are offered throughout the province of Saskatchewan in a variety of educational settings, which may differ depending on the location. This position adheres to SIIT Policy and Procedures and actively promotes and fosters an environment that reflects and upholds SIIT's vision, mission, and mandate.

General Accountability

Instructors will be responsible for delivering the SIIT program curricula with the purpose of promoting student success. Working collaboratively as a team of education professionals, Instructors will demonstrate a strong commitment to creating and maintaining a collaborative and positive learning environment at SIIT.

Specific Accountabilities

As the educational leader in the classroom, an Instructor in the Legal Paraprofessional Diploma program will be responsible for course planning, preparing instructional materials and evaluating student progress for assigned course curricula and syllabi. The instructor will implement teaching and learning strategies that provide opportunities for improved student success. These include the following broad range of accountabilities:

Instruction and Administration

Provide instruction and delivery of curriculum and course materials for a range of legal courses in accordance with the approved course syllabi
Utilize and provide instruction on industry-standard legal software and case management systems
Complete all course-required activities, assignments, and evaluations, including attendance records and course evaluations
Use appropriate methods of evaluating and recording student progress within the set time frames

Student Success

Cultivate a supportive and respectful educational environment that promotes effective learning and student engagement
Provide individualized support and differentiated instruction to support students, as needed
Engage in academic department activities, including performance reviews, department meetings, professional development opportunities, and student support initiatives
Prepare, support, and supervise students in work-integrated learning placements
Address student conflicts and, when necessary, recommend appropriate actions to the relevant supervisor regarding student academic and non-academic conduct
Meet with students to discuss their progress and proactively address issues that can affect student continuation in the program
Make recommendations to improve course objectives, course outlines, curriculum and evaluation procedures, when appropriate

Relationship Management & Leadership

Adhere to and promote academic requirements and SIIT policies and procedures
Support the enhancement of future student enrollment through positive promotion of SIIT programs
Attend and engage during staff, department, and institute meetings
Foster a positive, collaborative and professional working relationship among students, colleagues and partners across the Institution
Implement proactive classroom management strategies to cultivate a supportive and respectful educational environment
Foster an educational environment that supports learning and success
Engage learners in a balanced educational experience that integrates subject matter with Indigenous knowledge

Required Qualifications and Experience: A Bachelor of Education degree with a minimum of 3 years of teaching experience is required. A diploma in a related discipline from an accredited institution will be considered. Experience in a law office or the legal industry with teaching experience is required for select courses. Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, Adobe Acrobat, industry-standard legal software, and case management systems are essential. Additionally, knowledge of adult learning principles and First Nations cultures and organizations are considered an asset.
