At Tetra-Chem Industries Ltd., the Industrial Cleaner plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient work environment. This position is responsible for the thorough cleaning and upkeep of production areas, equipment, and facility spaces in compliance with company standards and safety regulations. The Industrial Cleaner supports our commitment to quality, safety, and operational excellence by ensuring that all areas meet the highest standards of cleanliness required for chemical manufacturing operations.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, and capable of performing tasks in an industrial setting. This role requires adherence to all environmental, health, and safety protocols while working collaboratively with plant, administrative, and maintenance teams to ensure smooth daily operations.
Duties

1. Office Area
Objective: Maintain a clean, sanitary, and professional workspace for office staff and visitors.
Responsibilities:
- Empty and replace garbage and recycling bins daily.
- Dust and wipe down desks, counters, shelves, and filing cabinets.
- Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces such as doorknobs, phones, keyboards, and light switches.
- Vacuum and/or mop office floors as required.
- Clean and restock lunchroom and break areas (tables, sinks, coffee stations, microwaves, refrigerators).
- Clean and disinfect washrooms (toilets, sinks, mirrors, floors) and restock supplies.
- Clean interior glass surfaces, including office windows and door panels.
- Report any maintenance or safety concerns (leaks, damaged flooring, etc.) to the Plant Manager or Supervisor.

2. Plant/Office Exterior & Windows
Objective: Maintain cleanliness and respectability of the facility exterior for safety and professional appearance.
Responsibilities:
- Clean and wash exterior windows and entryway glass as needed.
- Sweep walkways, loading docks, and entrance areas to remove debris and buildup.
- Remove cobwebs, dirt, and residue from building siding and door frames.
- Keep exterior garbage and recycling areas organized and free of litter.
- Power wash exterior surfaces (as directed) to maintain a clean and safe entry and delivery area.
- Responsible for seasonal exterior cleaning (snow shoveling, salt residue removal in winter, sweeping/power washing in summer).

3. Plant & Production Area
Objective: Maintain a safe, sanitary, and organized workspace to support chemical manufacturing operations.
Responsibilities:
- Empty all garbage and waste bins, ensuring proper segregation (regular waste, recyclables, chemical waste).
- Sweep and mop plant floors daily, focusing on high-traffic and blending areas.
- Remove dust, dirt, and residue from production surfaces, equipment bases, and shelving.
- Clean tops and sides of blending tanks
- Clean around filter, blending tanks, pumps, and filling stations, avoiding contamination of active product lines.
- Wipe down walls, doors, guarding and control panels where dust or residue accumulates.
- Wipe down parts washers and other equipment where dust or residue accumulates so that equipment can be sold and shipped to customers
- Maintain clean and clear aisles and emergency exits.
- Follow all chemical handling and PPE requirements when working near production equipment.
- Report any spills, leaks, or unsafe conditions immediately to the Supervisor.

4. Equipment Cleaning
Objective: Ensure production and handling equipment remain free of contamination and safe for operation.
Responsibilities:
- Clean and sanitize pumps, hoses, and fittings after use, according to Tetra-Chem cleaning procedures.
- Wash down portable mixing and transfer equipment between batches as directed by production staff.
- Maintain cleanliness of drum pumps, bungs, and small tools used in blending or filling.
- Use approved cleaning agents and follow proper chemical disposal protocols.
- Inspect cleaning tools and equipment regularly for wear or contamination; report issues promptly.
- Support maintenance and QA teams with periodic deep cleaning or shutdown cleaning projects.

5. Floors
Objective: Maintain floors that are clean, dry, and free of debris to ensure safety and compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Sweep and mop all office floor areas daily, using appropriate cleaning solutions for the surface type.

- Ensure no water on the production floor at all times
- Remove product spills, drips, or residues immediately and document according to spill procedures.
- Maintain anti-slip mats and ensure they are clean and properly positioned.
- Perform deep cleaning (scrubbing, degreasing) on a scheduled basis.

6. Wash-Up Room Duties
Objective: Maintain a sanitary and safe wash area for cleaning and reusing containers.
Responsibilities:
- Clean drums, pails, and lids according to standard operating procedures (SOP's).
- Cleaning ink filled canisters at customer request
- Ensure all wash water is disposed of according to environmental and waste-handling protocols.
- Inspect containers for residue, labels, or damage prior to reuse or recycling.
- Keep wash station organized, with cleaning supplies and PPE properly stored.
- Clean wash-up sinks, counters, and drains daily to prevent buildup.
- Maintain logs of cleaned containers as required by production or QA.
Production (Secondary Responsibilities)
- Filling customer orders per the direction of the production lead or plant manager
- Assist in staging orders for delivery
- Execute all other duties required by the position and/or asked by the immediate supervisor.
General Expectations
- Follow all Tetra-Chem safety policies, including PPE, WHMIS, and chemical handling requirements.
- Replenish cleaning and sanitation supplies as needed; report low inventory to the supervisor.
- Inspect and identify areas requiring additional attention or maintenance.
- Ensure that all cleaning activities are completed in a safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible manner.
- Maintain a positive and cooperative working relationship with all departments.
- Work efficiently and independently, prioritizing cleanliness, safety, and compliance.
- Participate in periodic inspections and audits as required.

Working Conditions
- Work is performed in an industrial and chemical manufacturing environment.
- Exposure to cleaning agents, chemical products, and varying temperatures may occur.
- Requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, respirators, and protective clothing.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and moving of equipment or materials up to 50 lbs.
- May involve working in elevated areas.
- Noise levels can be low to moderate; hearing protection may be required.
- Must comply with all company safety, environmental, and housekeeping policies.
Experience
- Prior custodial or cleaning experience is preferred but not required; training will be provided.
- Experience in commercial cleaning environments is a plus.
- Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high cleanliness standards.
- Physical stamina to perform manual labor including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods. This position is suitable for motivated individuals eager to contribute to a clean and organized workspace while gaining valuable experience in custodial services.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $19.00-$23.00 per hour
