Company DescriptionThe Anishinabek/Ontario Fisheries Resource Centre (A/OFRC) is a not-for-profit corporation established by agreement between the Grand Council Chief of the Anishinabek Nation and the Ontario Minister of Natural Resources to further the knowledge and conservation of fisheries resources of interest to member First Nations.
Role Description
This is a full-time role for a General Manager located in North Bay, ON. The General Manager will oversee daily operations, develop strategies, manage budgets, and ensure the organization meets its objectives.
A/OFRC is dedicated to the advancement and well-being of Indigenous communities. As permitted under Section 14 of the Ontario Human Rights Code, this position is part of a special program aimed at increasing employment opportunities for Indigenous people, particularly those with recognized status and members of an Anishinabek First Nation. • Strong leadership and management experience, with the ability to guide teams and foster a positive workplace culture.
• Excellent problem solving and analytical skills for resolving complex problems and dealing with sensitive issues.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities for working with a wide variety of groups and individuals.
• Superior understanding of Indigenous, particularly Anishinabek, culture and Traditional Ecological Knowledge, and issues relating to Indigenous resource use and management
• Experience working with non-profit organizations and Boards of Directors.
• Understanding of regulatory requirements related to scientific permitting, field operations, and workplace health and safety in Ontario would be considered an asset.
• Knowledge of fisheries biology, stock assessment, and natural resource management would be considered an asset.
The A/OFRC is in North Bay, Ontario, but the successful applicant will be expected to travel frequently throughout Ontario. This full-time position is based in North Bay, Ontario. While the role is primarily in-person, hybrid arrangements may be considered for the right candidate. Remuneration, ranging between $82,000 and $104,000 per annum, plus benefits, will be commensurate with experience, skills and qualifications.
