Job Summary
The General Manager is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and management to the field and Region office staff of the Electrical Safety Authority. They are responsible for planning, directing, implementing, and promoting electric public safety programs in their respective Region.
The successful candidate will be part of the strategic planning process and ensure that issues specific to the represented Region are discussed and considered to enhance the operation of the Region and the health, safety, and morale of all employees in the Region.
The Manager will be accountable for managing and operating the electrical inspection business in high-density residential, commercial, industrial, rural, and remote settings. They will be responsible for executing all work programs and ensuring a balance between revenue received and expenses incurred.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide guidance to staff in remote work sites, oversee field offices, and resolve technical, safety, administrative, and personnel issues.
- Advises on electrical inspection issues, including safety code interpretations, inspection performance, procedures, policies, wiring and installation approvals.
- Annually monitor and assess inspection effectiveness and recommend adjustments to the Region inspection plan, considering changes in the marketplace, customer expectations, and government and corporate policies.
- Establish processes for dealing with non-compliant electrical installations, including investigations, legal action and prosecution, and ensuring security.
- Represent ESA to the customer, contractors, LDCs and all other stakeholders.
- Recommend revisions and additions to the Ontario Electrical Code and implement measures to ensure consistent application of the Electrical Safety Code.
- Provide technical information regarding electrical safety and inspection requirements to external sources, such as customers, manufacturers, consulting engineers, contractors, distributors, and retailers.
- Resolve customer complaints related to service delivery, fees, policies and other issues while mentoring Customer Service Representatives to enhance customer satisfaction.
Who Are You?
The successful incumbent for this position will first hand knowledge of the Electrical Safety Authority and requires knowledge of electrical engineering theory, as well as related mathematics, circuits, and physics.
- A college diploma or a university degree in a related field.
- Experience in directly managing front line staff and remote work locations.
- Must have a track record, which demonstrates personal effectiveness with front line and trade staff, preferably in a unionized environment.
