<h3>Job Profile</h3>
<p>Under the general supervision of the Technologist Grade 3, the Technician 2 – Drafting and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), carries out complex drafting, mapping, graphic presentation assignments, and analysis and maintenance of spatial data using computer aided mapping and GIS software. Performs maintenance and updating of databases related to land records as well as interprets and plots legal descriptions and other related duties consistent with the classification. This position also provides internal staff and the public with cartographic products and other land-related information.</p>
<h3>As the Drafting and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician, your duties will include:</h3>
<ul>
<li>Perform a variety of highly skilled drafting using state of the art computer drafting and mapping software(s) such as CAD, GIS, GeoMedia Professional, and MicroSurvey, etc. to meet the cartographic needs of the Real Estate Division, Geomatics Branch, Permits and Waterways Branches, professional consultants as well as the general public.</li>
<li>Provide the Department, City staff and the general public with cartographic products and other land-related information available through the use of GeoMedia Professional and the AMANDA system.</li>
<li>Perform maintenance and updating of databases related to land records such as the Property Address System, City Land Inventory, Base Map, Zoning, and AMANDA System and performs other related duties consistent with classification.</li>
<li>Interpret and plot legal descriptions and performs mathematical computations.</li>
<li>Perform mathematical calculations, using the principles of geometry and trigonometry, related to land boundaries and areas to determine missing distances, angles, closures and areas from information shown on registered plans or engineering drawings.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Your Education And Qualifications Include</h3>
<ul>
<li>Nine (9) Community College courses; OR equivalent program of study from another educational institute including courses in computer-aided drafting, principles of GIS, managing databases and survey computations; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.</li>
<li>Minimum three (3) years’ experience related to Geomatics and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) activities.</li>
<li>Ability to prepare and interpret engineering notes and sketches and transfer the information to neat workable drawings or computer databases using a variety of tools and software.</li>
<li>Ability to perform basic analysis of data using GIS principles and software, and to prepare graphic reports of the results.</li>
<li>Knowledge of survey mathematics and the ability to carry out routine survey computations.</li>
<li>Proficiency in the use of GeoMedia.</li>
<li>Working knowledge of departmental drafting and mapping software, spreadsheet and database applications, and word processing software.</li>
<li>Ability to carry out project work as directed and to prepare or complete required reports and records.</li>
<li>Demonstrated skill in the layout and presentation of land related information and map data to clearly communicate desired results.</li>
<li>Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, legal descriptions, and specifications, in the preparation of sketches for reports and presentations.</li>
<li>Ability to organize and efficiently carry out assignments and meet prescribed deadlines.</li>
<li>Physically capable of performing the position’s duties in an office environment using computers.</li>
<li>Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions.</li>
<li>Ability to supervise and train subordinates.</li>
<li>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.</li>
<li>Willingness and ability to take and successfully complete additional training and instruction as required.</li>
