Reporting to the Vice President, Health, Safety and Sustainability you will develop and deliver evidence-based supports and solutions that foster positive workplace mental health and psychological safety.

The responsibilities of the Director of Mental Health & Psychological Safety will include fostering a psychologically safe environment for workers to optimize their mental health and build a workplace culture through the prevention of workplace violence, conflict resolution strategies and education. The goal of this position is to be an agent of change and promote the best opportunity for everyone to work at Modern Niagara in a healthy and psychologically safe environment. This includes working with leaders to build into their leadership toolkit the skills or psychologically safe leadership.



Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and guide the MH&PS specialists and coordinators to strengthen and increase awareness in the mental health and psychological safety program.
  • Provide support to the leadership and workforce to manage issues of stress, strain, burnout and psychological health and safety incidents in the workplace including on projects.
  • Develop policies, procedures, guidelines, and programs related to psychological health and safety performance enhancement in the workplace.
  • Develop and manage mental health and psychological safety metrics and data collection strategy to monitor and develop strategies for performance improvement.
  • Develop and deliver education to small and large groups of staff and leaders regarding policies and skills that foster a psychologically safe and mentally healthy workplace culture
  • Coach leaders on problem solving strategies with emphasis on collaboration, critical thought, empathy, effectiveness and self-awareness
  • Conduct needs assessments and focus groups to formulate training plans based on data
  • In collaboration with the People and Culture team, consult with leaders and staff to assist in conflict resolution and the creation of action plans that manage contentious or difficult relationships
  • Lead implementation of select elements of the Workplace mental health and psychological safety strategy
  • Lead interventions that promote mental health and psychological safety
  • Communicate, report, and maintain confidential records on activities situations / outcomes at all times, presenting findings

Qualifications and Job Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in an allied health profession specializing in mental health is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to produce evidence-based education materials reflecting the latest research
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with diverse teams and stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience consulting with leaders and workers, identifying needs, and designing, developing and delivering solutions
  • Experience facilitating complex issues, mentoring conclusive strategies and action plans
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, root cause analysis, and ability to adjust approach based on stakeholders involved
  • Certification in Psychological Safety/Workplace Mental Health Specialist would be an asset, but not required
