Our client is a designer and distributor of consumer goods for professional and home use. The Director of Finance is an executive level position reporting to the President & CEO and is a member of the senior leadership team with accountability for finance and corporate governance supporting a medium sized Canadian owned company with subsidiary businesses. This role is accountable as the principal Controller for accounting, control, governance and risk management functions as well as forward looking (budgeting, planning and analysis) functions as both a strategic advisor to the CEO as well as to other senior leaders helping to optimize business financial performance. Duties and Responsibilities Finance – Accounting · Accountable for all accounting functions specifically A/R, A/P and accounting with a team of approximately 10 employees of clerks, analysts, accountants · As a priority, after a recent Microsoft Business Central ERP system implementation, identify areas for process improvement to reduce manual work and improve processes in transactional work, analysis and management reporting.

Build team capability with new system. · Specifically: · Responsible to manage reporting and communication with banks · Prepare timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP including operational analysis and management commentary · Monitor cash-flow and analysis with a priority on improving A/R · Work with auditor in compliance with all jurisdictions and regulatory requirements (US, Canada, France). · Manage corporate budgets (sales, GP%, expense, profit). · Manage a building construction budget and bank funding Finance – Decision Support Ensure all of Finance increases its capabilities to better support the business not just with operational transactions but providing more value-added services. Develop and help to mature the group from basic transactional support to more efficient and effective services; specifically: · Work with VP of Operations on operational issues to reduce costs and increase profitability (e.g., warehouse, shipping, supply chain, eCommerce) · Manage all commercial contracts from a legal and business perspective · Advise CEO on strategies, issues, opportunities working across all areas to provide insightful analysis, trends, best practices and recommendations · Work with other Sr. Leaders on issues, opportunities in their functional areas providing collaboration, decision support and effective business partnership Information Technology Experience with ERP Implementations (Microsoft Business Central) and working knowledge of Power BI Experience & Qualifications Finance · Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting and CPA (CA preferred) · Strong knowledge of accounting principles, best practices, analytics · 15 years of financial management experience in progressively more complex roles · Strong knowledge of financial analysis, forecasting, budgeting, and reporting · Track record of improvements and enabling organizational improvements Business · Preference for distribution industry experience including inventory management · Strong business acumen with sharp analytical and strategic problem solving abilities · Able to work collaboratively and cross functionally · Strong KPI approaches to manage business metrics and continuous improvements · Understanding of IT as a business enabler General · Impeccable computer skills including ERP/accounting system experience · Excellent organizational, prioritization, execution skills with attention to detail · Strong demonstrated team leadership to develop people and increase team capability · Results driven, adaptable with good situational awareness and able to develop and execute on plans including regular status reporting · Outstanding and influential interpersonal abilities · Effective formal and informal communication skills (in person, written, presentations) Key Success Factors / Personality Traits · In office based 5 days/week, strong work ethic · Able to present info in executive summary form with back up as needed · Able to understand detailed numbers and processes but roll up discussion to a higher level · Confident in approach and able to influence others · Able to make quick and informed opinions around strategy, opportunity, risks then present plan with recommendations and defined actions · Great leader of people to strengthen a team with carefully planned and executed approaches · Confident for respectful debate and sounding board with CEO to find best approach and able to have a diverging opinion with strong rationale · Quick learner to learn the business with sharp insights around risks/opportunities, best practices
