Customs Specialist


The Customs Specialist will work in conjunction with the Customs Team Lead and Customs Administrators. Combined they will be responsible for all customs clearances and all aspects of Bison’s border crossing processes and procedures.


The Customs Specialist is a key contributor to ensuring that all customs set‑ups are completed timely, accurately and compliantly. Through their customs experience and expertise, they will elevate the service we provide to our drivers and operations. The value of the position is measured in the quality of our setups and will be reflected in our daily service measures. Elevating our overall service will be a primary function of this role.


Specific Responsibilities include:



  • Complete customs set‑ups, including eManifests, PARS/PAPS, and bond arrivals/exportations.

  • Monitor quality and compliance dashboards and resolve issues such as outstanding PARS/PAPS, eManifest errors, and driver delays.

  • Support Drivers, Operations, Customs Administrators, and Brokers by resolving customs‑related inquiries and managing incoming customs emails.

  • Improve key performance metrics, including ACE/ACI setup times, driver experience, and reduction of customs‑related delays.

  • Apply advanced knowledge of TMW eManifest and U.S./Canada Customs portals to ensure accurate and timely processing.

  • Identify and correct exceptions in notes, broker profiles, and clearance instructions.

  • Build strong working relationships with Customs Brokers and regulatory agencies.

  • Assist in training new and current team members.

  • Support daily operations, monitor pending clearances, process in‑bond shipments, and escalate issues as needed.


Ideal Candidate will possess:



  • 1-3 years of experience in customs operations.

  • Strong understanding of company policies, procedures, objectives, and culture, with the ability to apply them effectively.

  • Excellent problem‑solving ability including the ability to identify, react, and provide solutions.

  • Excellent attention to detail with a proven record for accuracy.

  • Excellent communication skills with a proven ability to provide verbal and written instructions and an emphasis on motivational abilities.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

Monday to Friday, 08:00 - 17:00.
