Job Description
The Cook is responsible for preparing high-quality meals in accordance with the Abbey's dietary guidelines, meal schedules, and hospitality standards. This role supports the Abbey's mission by ensuring nourishing and well-presented meals are served to residents, guests, and staff in a timely and organized manner.
Key Responsibilities
· Prepare, cook, and serve meals according to daily menus and dietary requirements.
· Assist in menu planning, incorporating seasonal and locally sourced ingredients where possible.
· Follow safe food handling, sanitation, and storage practices in compliance with food safety regulations.
· Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen work areas, utensils, and equipment.
· Work collaboratively with the Kitchen Supervisor to ensure meal service runs smoothly.
· Monitor inventory levels, assist in ordering supplies, and minimize food waste.
· Support special events or large group meals as needed.
· Uphold the Abbey's values of hospitality, respect, and service.
Qualifications & Experience
- Proven experience as a cook, preferably in an institutional, hospitality, or retreat setting.
- Knowledge of various cooking techniques and dietary requirements (e.g., vegetarian, gluten-free).
- Food Safe Level 1 (or willingness to obtain).
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and take direction from the Kitchen Supervisor.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 25 lbs.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00-$22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 30 per week
