Commissioning & Startup CoordinatorContract Duration: Start Date: March 30, 2026 – End Date: March 30, 2027
Reporting to: CSU Manager
Overview
Under the direction of the CSU Manager, the LHY CSU Coordinator will prepare for and lead the safe Commissioning & Startup (C&SU) of the Hydrogen Liquefaction Unit. This position will also support the commissioning of the Air Separation Unit (ASU), which will come on stream first and operates as a similar cryogenic facility. This is a highly technical, field-focused role (~80% field-based during the CSU phase) requiring strong cryogenic, rotating equipment, and commissioning experience.
During Construction Phase (2026)
Project & Technical Familiarization
Become fully aligned with the CSU Execution Plan, project schedule, and systemization strategy
Develop deep technical understanding of the assigned process unit
Build relationships with CSU, Construction, Engineering, and Operations teams
Complete Safe Work Permit (SWP) training and become qualified to issue permits
System Turnover Preparation
Understand system scope and turnover sequencing
Review system cleaning plans and contractor procedures
Support temporary spool and consumables planning for CSU
Review and finalize commissioning packages and procedures aligned with vendor and engineering requirements
Utilize SmartCompletions (Air Products CMS tool)
Support construction complete walkdowns
Understand punch list and CSU handover management processes
During Commissioning & Startup Phase (2027)
Safety Leadership
Champion EH&S standards in the field
Audit, coach, and intervene as required to maintain safe execution
Coordinate SIMOPS communication with the construction workforce
Support ORI/PSSR prior to startup
Execution & Coordination
Attend and support CC/MC/STCC walkdowns
Participate in daily CSU execution meetings and 3-week lookahead planning
Coordinate field operations and craft discipline leads
Resolve field issues and escalate when required
Act as CSU liaison with vendors and specialty contractors
Support nightshift Daily Order Instructions (DOIs)
LHY-Specific Responsibilities
Execute high-pressure leak and vacuum testing for the cold box and storage systems
Support startup of hydrogen compressors, turbo-expanders, and ortho-to-para conversion systems
Execute nitrogen and helium purging cycles
Manage cryogenic cool-down and initial liquid hydrogen loading into storage
Qualifications & Experience
5+ years in gas processing, refining, or cryogenic ASU facilities
Hydrogen liquefaction or LNG experience considered an asset
Strong cryogenic knowledge including liquid hydrogen properties and contamination risks (~ -253°C)
Experience with high-speed turbo-machinery and reciprocating compressors
Required Certifications (one of the following):
Minimum 3rd Class Power Engineer
Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyman
Process Technician/Technologist
Professional Process Engineer
Equivalent relevant experience
