As the Chief Estimator you will be in charge of the preconstruction process along with deciding which projects to bid on. Will manage multiple tenders and responsible for all aspects of the estimating.
Chief Estimators Main Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Review drawings and specifications and identify the divisions of work.
- Study plans and specifications clarifying location and document discrepancies
- Generate and implement new cost management and cost tracking and reporting techniques to ensure prudent expenditure of corporate capital
- Confirm if there is a site visit and arrange attendance.
- Organize plans and specifications for display, distribution posting on our website.
- Complete pre-bid form.
- Fill out bonding and insurance requests and submission.
- Prepare sub-trade request list for estimating assistant.
- Solicit bidders, prepare a sub-trade request list for distribution, and note special trades to be personally called.
- Listing of special materials and calling for prices.
- Deal with the RFI’s internally and from sub trades and log.
- The ability to conduct a cut and fill take off, excavation backfill, site servicing, and formwork and concrete quantities and pricing are a must.
- Ability to work on unit-rate tenders and ability to perform take off in direct relation to the units.
- Ability to attend site visits, take pictures, notes, and interacting with owner / consultant.
- Ability to build a preliminary tender schedule based on the major and long delivery dates and review with our construction department.

- 8+ years progressive pre-construction experience in positions leading up to Chief Estimator role
- Experience in ICI renovations projects
- Post-secondary diploma in a construction related discipline
- Ability to be client-facing and increase project pipeline
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of different construction methods, sequencing, potential problems, and timelines
- Familiar with project management and estimating software programs
- Knowledge of relevant construction law and building code
- excellent attitude and resilience
