Job Description
The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education is responsible for the administration of the public school system within the boundaries of Cape Breton and Victoria Counties, supporting approximately 12,000 students in 38 schools.

CBVRCE is seeking qualified school counsellors for the expansion of the school counselling program. Specific schools will be identified in June 2026 as we proceed through our staffing processes.
Qualifications & Competencies
Degree must include graduate level courses in:
Courses related to counselling skills and practice are encouraged to be completed in an education setting and in-person rather than virtually.
Code of Ethics and Standard of Practice - Counsellors are expected to have reviewed and demonstrated proficiency with the CCPA Code of Ethics and Standard of Practice in their role as a School Counsellor.
Minimum 400 hour supervised practicum that includes a minimum of 150 hours of direct client counselling and between 50-75 hours of counselling in group settings. The supervisor must have 4 years of counselling experience and practica completed in a school setting is preferred.

Reporting to the Coordinator of Program Partnerships and the school principal, the school counsellor within the CBVRCE has a significant role to play in the design and delivery of the Comprehensive School Counselling Program, focusing on proactive, preventative, and responsive programs and services. The comprehensive school counselling program is a flexible program designed to meet the ever-changing needs of the schools, students and families/communities served. Working collaboratively in a team environment, the school counsellor must be a licensed teacher with a Master's Degree level training in counselling who assists students, parents/guardians, teachers and school administrators by providing counselling, consulting, coordinating and program management in the areas of personal, social, educational and career related matters. The school counsellor must demonstrate competencies in the areas of knowledge, skill, and attitude. Please see the most recent provincial document for specific competencies.
