Business Analyst
to join our team in a permanent, full-time capacity.
We partner with a diverse range of clients, including government ministries, Crown corporations, healthcare organizations, community services agencies, and professional services firms. Experience working within provincial or local government, Crown corporations, or healthcare environments is highly desirable, though not mandatory.
The Opportunity
As a Business Analyst at Avocette, you will play a key role in driving business improvement initiatives and supporting digital and business transformation projects. You will collaborate closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams to understand business needs, assess solution options, and deliver high-quality documentation and analysis that supports successful project outcomes.
This role is ideal for a strategic thinker who combines strong analytical capability with exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support business improvement and process re-engineering initiatives
- Conduct business needs assessments, including problem definition, data collection, and research into technology solutions
- Elicit, analyze, and document business and functional requirements
- Prepare and contribute to key project documentation, including:
- Business cases and feasibility studies
- Business requirements and functional specifications
- Process definitions and use cases
- Perform options analysis, including risk assessments, cost-benefit analysis, financial considerations, and support impacts
- Model and document business processes (e.g., swim-lane diagrams, activity diagrams, workflow models)
- Facilitate workshops and stakeholder meetings to build alignment and consensus
- Develop and deliver professional presentations and business process training
- Provide ongoing client support and subject matter expertise
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to a collaborative team environment
Skills and Competencies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to quickly understand new concepts and processes
- Knowledge of current IT practices, systems, and industry trends
- Excellent leadership and facilitation skills to foster client engagement and teamwork
- Superior diplomacy, judgment, and professionalism
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including conflict resolution
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize effectively and manage multiple initiatives

Qualifications and Experience
- 5–7 years of progressive experience in business analysis, including:
- Project scoping and estimation
- Stakeholder engagement and management
- Risk assessment and communication planning
- Requirements documentation and implementation support
- Experience within government (provincial or local), healthcare, social services, or education sectors is highly desirable
- Solid understanding of project management methodologies and best practices
- Demonstrated experience working within the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and business stakeholders
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications e.g. Excel, Word & PowerPoint
- Proficiency in tools that help communicate, validate and document designs & process e.g. Axure, Enterprise Architect, Visio
- Post-secondary education in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
