Job Profile
Asset and Project Management – Aquatics is currently accepting applications for Summer Student positions. Most Summer Students will be required for the period of May through August, with April 15 th being the earliest start date and September 15 th being the latest release date.
All applicants must be available to start work on short notice and intend on returning to school at the end of season.
Under the general supervision of the Pool Foreperson, the Building Servicer 1 – Aquatics is primarily responsible for cleaning of public areas. This position is also responsible for testing and maintaining proper water quality in all of the pool facilities by water sampling, testing samples and by adjusting the water chemical feed systems based on the test results, as required. This position responds to pool foulings and performs the necessary established procedures to sanitize the pool water so the pool can safely be open to the public, as required. The Building Servicer 1 – Aquatics is also responsible for providing ground maintenance, such as snow clearing.

Building Servicer 1 – Aquatics (Student)
your duties will include:
- Performs a variety of custodial duties and general repairs, and assists the Building Servicer 2 in maintenance repairs to building equipment.
- Perform a variety of minor building maintenance and repair tasks and assists trades persons and higher-level staff in major repairs and maintenance operations.
- Maintain a proficient level of safety practices and procedures in buildings.
- Assist in maintaining proper water quality and control (includes water testing, pool fouling, pool vacuuming and adjusting chemicals to maintain proper water balance).
- Operate safely all power and hand tools as required.
- Interact with the general public.
- Answer telephone inquiries, taking messages and/or referring to appropriate source.
- Perform minor maintenance and assist with major maintenance to locks and lockers.
- Responsible for testing and maintaining proper water quality in all of the pool facilities in order to maintain proper water chemistry as required by Manitoba Health regulations.
- Performs routine building facility inspections to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Assists in the orientation of fellow employees and maintains cooperative working relations.
- Perform other duties consistent with the classification as assigned.
Your Education And Qualifications Include
- Grade 10 or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Swimming Pool Operations and Management certificate is desired.
- 6 months of experience with custodial/cleaning duties, including the use of power-operated custodial equipment.
- Experience in the operation of power and hand tools.
- Verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate information to others, including colleagues and members of the public.
- Written communication skills with the ability to produce and complete written documents.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to train new staff.
- Interpersonal skills with the ability to interact satisfactorily with the public, including community groups and other civic staff.
- Knowledge of materials and chemicals related to the position.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and the safety precautions and regulations that are applicable.
- Knowledge in the operation of swimming pool maintenance (vacuuming, water testing, and balancing pool water) is desired.

- Must be able to work various hours as Aquatics operates on a 24 hour per day, 7 days per week basis (this may include: days, evenings, nights on weekdays, weekends, and statutory holidays).
- Must be able to move locations per Management direction based on operational needs.
- Must be able to work in a warm, humid environment and be free of any respiratory problems or susceptibility to infection which may hamper job performance.
- Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position, including the ability to climb ladders, scaffolds, and work at heights, in confined spaces or in a warm, humid environment.
- The successful applicant(s) will be required to provide CSA-approved personal protective safety boots (six (6) inches above the ankle) at their own expense.
