Job Description

Responsibilities



  • Responsible for overseeing and optimizing the operations and functionality of the assigned sites, while promoting safety, sanitation and security through ensuring that all awareness programs, meetings, inspections and preventative measures required have been completed on time and on a daily basis.

  • Strong cost‑center management experience as part of the operational responsibilities and a solid track record in providing positive results.

  • Proficient understanding of regulations impacting the various sites and operations, including timely reporting and experience dealing with the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Labour.

  • Ensure sites operate in a strict and compliant fashion within the parameters of the site’s environmental approvals certificates and other requirements set out by customers’ needs and Ontario regulations.

  • Manage the financial, human and physical resources of the assigned sites in alignment with GFL’s vision and values and in accordance with the annual Business Plan, with a strong focus on safety and profit‑and‑loss activities.

  • Full P&L responsibility and financial accountability for the location. Provide monthly forecasting to ensure accuracy and performance against the financial goals set for the location.

  • Provide overall direction and coordination of all employees under your jurisdiction, including hiring, training, managing performance, promotion, discipline, and recommendations for discharge in accordance with policy and practice in a unionized environment.

  • Provide guidance and direction to GFL Operations staff in all facilities regarding waste processing and disposal policies, procedures and regulations.

  • Oversee and guide industrial waste processing and disposal operations at all facilities in a way that increases flexibility of the sites and reduces bottlenecks and inefficiencies.

  • Support the Site Operations Managers and Supervisors in the preparation and oversight of tenders/quotations and reports for operating, security and maintenance works, including design, setting specifications, preparing cost estimates, project management and commissioning.

  • Manage the facility under strict government and customer requirements needed to meet secure product handling, warehousing and ultimate product destruction standards.

  • Develop short and long‑term goals and operating procedures to achieve and maintain ongoing compliance of waste processing.

  • All other duties as may be assigned related to the role and operation.


Qualifications



  • College diploma/degree in business or equivalent work experience required.

  • Minimum 5 years in an Operations or Business Manager role.

  • Experience and strong knowledge of waste systems, waste processing, equipment and vehicles.

  • Experience managing a warehouse operation and associated inventory tracking systems is extremely desirable.

  • Strong knowledge of the Highway Traffic Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulation 347.

  • Proven record in managing operations at waste processing sites safely and efficiently.

  • WHMIS training.

  • Experience using MS Word, Excel, OMS.

  • Proficient “People Manager” with demonstrated people‑building skills.

  • Strong analytical and financial skill sets required to run an operation from top line to bottom line.
