Job Description
Overview
Our client, a leading manufacturer in advanced engineered products, is seeking an Applications Engineer to support customer-driven new product introduction (NPI) projects. This role focuses on engineering deliverables, technical communication, and cross-functional collaboration throughout the project lifecycle. The successful candidate will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to develop, validate, and launch high-quality, manufacturable engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Understand customer applications, vehicle programs, emerging technologies, and engineering requirements including regulatory and competitive considerations.
- Lead technical communication throughout project phases, including product evaluation, testing, and measurement to establish design targets.
- Recommend engineering solutions using available technologies, material standards, and design-for-manufacturing (DFM) principles.
- Select purchased components and collaborate with suppliers as needed.
- Utilize engineering calculation tools and light FEA/CFD analysis (e.g., ANSYS for stress, back pressure, surface temperature).
- Coordinate with internal development teams for advanced engineering support and work with design centers for model/drawing completion, markups, and engineering change notifications using PTC Windchill and Creo View.
- Ensure released drawings and process flow documentation are feasible, manufacturable, and compliant with customer requirements.
- Create preliminary process documentation (PFD) and support handoff to manufacturing engineering teams through launch.
- Work directly with customer engineers, suppliers, sales, costing, manufacturing, and quality teams on pre-sales, new awards, NPI activities, and production support.
- Build strong technical relationships with customers through effective communication and engineering leadership.
- Support development of technical solutions related to acoustics, thermals, fluids/power, and durability.
- Consider manufacturability, GD&T, measurement capability, materials, performance, and compliance requirements in all design work.
- Use Creo Parametric to design and model complete systems, including DFM modifications, integration of standard products, and customer-directed design updates.
- Coordinate testing and validation at customer or internal facilities.
- Monitor industry trends, customer needs, competitive products, and technological advancements to support proposals and business cases for sustainable product development.
- Lead cross-functional continuous improvement initiatives for existing products.
- Support all phases of the business process from concept and development through prototype, validation, production launch, and market introduction.
- Occasional travel required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Minimum 5 years of mechanical engineering experience.
