Located in Toronto, the Art Gallery of Ontario (“the AGO”) is one of the largest art museums in North America, with a collection of close to 100,000 works. At AGO Art Camp, we believe in fostering creativity and imagination in young artists. We are currently seeking a Temporary Full-time, AGO Art Camp, Administrative Lead Counsellor to join our Education & Programming team. Under the direction of the Manager, Studio Programming and Learning, the incumbent will be responsible for organizing, maintaining and distributing all camp attendances and associated lists including daily and weekly reports. They will lead the daily attendance check in and check out process for all campers and will work closely with our Visitor Services team to maintain up-to-date records and oversee volunteer placement and assists with counsellor placements. The Administrative Lead Counsellor is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the camp program, providing excellent front line customer service (in-person, by phone and email), and will cover for camp counsellor absences and fellow lead staff absences as required. They will plan and lead activities in collaboration with the Manager, Camp Coordinator, fellow lead staff, counsellors and volunteers and supports camp staff and volunteers indoors and outdoors as needed to run programming, promote well-being and maintain a safe camp environment at all times. The Administrative Lead Counsellor will mentor counsellors and volunteers throughout the summer, demonstrating best practices in behavioural management, customer service, program planning and delivery and health & safety awareness, as well as administrative processes. They will be responsible for implementing a comprehensive counsellor and volunteer training program for the AGO Art Camp, and writing an end-of-summer report, summarizing all recommendations and suggestions for the following summer.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications, skills, and experience:

  • Enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary program in arts administration, visual arts, education, physical education, health and recreation or other appropriate areas of study (or within 24 months of graduation)
  • Experience in child behaviour management and supervising groups of children (aged 5-13) in an indoor/outdoor camp and/or educational environment
  • Enjoys working with children and youth
  • Strong computer skills (word processing, data processing) including familiarity with excel, word and outlook
  • Experience with CampBrain software is an asset
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent problem solving and team-building and training skills
  • Strong interest in the visual arts
  • Standard First Aid CPR/AED Level C is required before start of employment
