Salary: $ $34.91 hourly as per the Library Service Assistant 4 Classification within the C.U.P.E Collective Agreement.

Job Profile
As the Adult Literacy Instructor, you will oversee the Adult Literacy Program at Harvey Smith Library and foster a positive and welcoming learning space. You will assess and intake learners, instruct in the classroom, provide referrals to supports and other literacy and learning programs and maintain the records required for operating the program.
As The Adult Literacy Instructor, Your Duties Will Include
Oversee the operation of an Adult Literacy Program including learner intake and teaching (Manitoba Stages; stages 1 and 2).
Create individualized learner plans, applying the principles of adult learning and the Manitoba Stages.
Provide quality teaching in reading, writing, computer and document use.
Select learning resources for the classroom.
Conduct assessments of learner progress.
Maintain an inclusive, respectful and welcoming space for learners to achieve their goals.
Refer learners to mental health, financial and employment supports, as needed.
Assist in grant reporting, program documentation, and maintaining program statistics.
Promote the program with community agencies and other literacy and learning programs.
Your Education And Qualifications Include
Undergraduate degree or the equivalent in training and experience.
Meets Manitoba Competency Standard for Adult Literacy Instructors (Level 1 certificate).
2 years' experience in instruction in an Adult Literacy Program or in an Adult Learning Centre.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience instructing adult learners within the Manitoba Stages Framework.
Understanding and ability to apply Adult Learning Principles using a learner-centered approach.
Training and experience in adult literacy assessment and evaluation.
Training and experience in developing individualized learning plans and portfolios.
Responsive and adaptable to various learner preferences.
Excellent communication skills and knowledge of English reading, writing, and numeracy.
Must possess good planning, decision making, problem solving and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently.
Experience in budgeting, reporting and/or grant writing.
Proficient in computers including MS Office
