About the Role: A Therapeutic Recreation Aide plays a vital role in our LTC home by executing person-centered interventions to improve quality of life for residents with physical, mental and emotional challenges. A Recreation Aide's main focus is program implementation and individual support.
We are looking for individuals with a good attendance record and who have a proven record record of being adaptable and flexible. Must be able to work as a team member and with the elderly.
** Must have a Vulnerable Sector Police Check – not older than 6 months as a condition of employment.
Hours: Permanent Full-Time employment/75 Hours Bi-weekly including two 12-8pm shifts during the week and every other weekend
Rate of Pay: $24.11 per hour – plus benefits. Plus shift premiums for evening and weekend shifts.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Recreation and Leisure Services or equivalent.
- Experience in Long Term Care setting is an asset.
- A current First Aid and CPR certificate training is an asset.
- Courses in Gerontology, Sociology, Behavior Management, and/or Montessori Programming is an asset.
- Good communication skills, both oral and written.
- Basic computer skills and video/sound knowledge is required.
Responsibilities:
- Observes all policies and procedures of the department according to the Program manual.
- Completes all assignments as directed.
- Responsible for maintaining and promoting Resident independence related to mobility, social interaction, spiritual support, and personal hobbies.
- Documents as required through Point of Care System.
- Participates in Resident Care Conferences as required.
- Participates in events in-house as well as external events as required maintaining safety of Residents at all times.
