We also offer educational support, and participation in our recognition and annual salary reviews program.Reporting to the Director, Finance, as the Accounting Manager, you will be a crucial member of our accounting team, responsible for overseeing the day-to-day financial operations, financial reporting and treasury function of Metro-Can Construction. We are looking for someone with strong financial reporting skills who is excited about the opportunity to professionally grow with a successful and expanding company. Roles & ResponsibilitiesFinancial Reporting and Auditing
- Manage the month-end close process, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance of financial reporting
- Complete Working Papers and Account Reconciliations:
- Oversee full-cycle accounting responsibilities, including status of contracts, sub-ledger reconciliations, general ledger analysis, and key balance sheet account reconciliations.
- Review and approve daily/weekly EFT batch payments.
- Review journal entries, such as overhead, accruals, prepaids, and adjustments, maintaining accuracy and completeness in all entries.
- Prepare monthly & quarterly tax filings.
- Analyze and interpret variances in income statements and balance sheets, providing clear explanations to support decision-making.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with ASPE accounting standards.
- Manage the year-end audit and communication with external auditors
- Manage communication with the CRA including special reviews and audits.
Project Accounting
- Oversee day-to-day project accounting, including executing finance project controls.
- Job forecasting variance analysis and reporting to stakeholders.
- Identify and develop future talent for growth within the finance team.
Working Capital
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable ensuring compliance with KPIs.
- Prepare weekly cashflow forecasts to ensure availability of sufficient funds for job/operational needs.
Ad Hoc Tasks
- Participate in cross-functional projects to drive process improvements and operational efficiencies.
- Assist in the development and implementation of internal controls and procedures.
- Provide guidance to other accounting staff when needed.
- Ad-hoc projects as requested by the Director, Finance, Buildings Group – Canada.
Qualifications
- Minimum 4 years of accounting experience.
- Background in the areas of audit and consolidation accounting is advantageous.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field.
- CPA designation or working toward achieving.
- Excellent organizational skills to handle multiple deadlines and tasks within a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency in accounting software and advanced MS Excel skills.
- Familiarity with construction industry is an advantage.
