Job Overview:
The Market Café Team Lead position is located at the Longo’s Support Centre. It is the food hub for the Support Centre, Central Kitchen & Distribution Centre team members as well as visitors. The Market Café serves breakfast and lunch to all team members and visitors and is open during the business hours of Monday-Friday. This position reports to the Brand Manager, Private Brands and is responsible for all aspects of the daily operation of the Market Café. The Team Lead is responsible for creating weekly menus, managing catering events, operational and financial performance, and providing quality food and superior customer service to all visitors of the Market Café. The Team Lead will place special emphasis on driving excitement and awareness of Private Brands products and will manage and adhere to all standard operating procedures in accordance with the Longo’s policies.
What you’ll do:
- Oversee the daily operational and financial management of the Market Café
- Manage and lead a team of Market Café Clerks, including hiring, training, and scheduling
- Monitor inventory levels and order food, materials and supplies using Longo’s software
- Plan, prepare and serve daily meals while delivering quality customer service to all team members
- Create weekly menus and lunch features to keep the menu current, innovative and seasonally relevant
- Create new recipes from scratch and train Market Café clerks
- Responsible for cashing out team members including the management of cash and till deposits
- Organize and manage catering events including the preparation and delivery of quality food as well as set up and clean up
- Work closely with department leads to implement in-store programs into the Market Café
- Create impactful merchandising displays with a focus on Private Brands products
- Set up the Market Café (product presentation, stocking, signage and rotation of products)
- Check product best before dates and remove close-to-code products immediately from coolers/ counters/shelves
- Maintain the overall cleanliness of the Market Café
- Adhere and enforce to all Longo’s policies and procedures including Food Safety and Health & Safety regulations, while maintaining proper hygiene practices
- Adhere to Longo’s dress code and appearance guidelines as per Longo’s policy
- Foster a “Foodie” and “Hospitality” culture through the creation of innovative kitchen prepared foods and great service.
- Build and maintain a positive and safe environment for all team members visiting the Market Café
- Other assigned duties as required
What we are looking for:
- Positive go-getter with a “can do” attitude
- Post-secondary education
- Previous experience in restaurant management or kitchen supervision
- Previous experience as a line cook
- Completion of college culinary course is an asset
- Proven leadership and management skills
- Strong preparation and cooking skills
- Valid Food Handler’s certification or provincial equivalent
- Good understanding of Prepared Foods
- Knowledge of inventory management and ordering systems is an asset
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact with all team members.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Professionally handle any food complaints, injuries, recalls or inquiries
- Proficient in Microsoft Applications
- An energetic, motivated leader who is able to inspire others to provide the highest standards of performance and customer service
- Knowledge in the areas of food service, team management, team motivation, catering, leadership, human resources, organizational development and cost management
- Excellent knowledge of maintenance and care of equipment, materials and supplies
- Knowledge of temperature control and food safety
- Flexibility – Ability to adapt quickly to new situations, as well as new and changing processes, programs and services
- Must have own transportation, public transportation is NOT available to the work location
- Availability to work Monday to Friday
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Cooking near hot stoves/loading and unloading in fridge/freezer environment
- Fast paced, customer service focused, high pressure situations with tight deadlines
