The opportunity
The Director, Legal Counsel – Canada Intellectual Property will be responsible for developing and implementing IP strategy for Teva’s generic products for the Canadian market, will advise senior R&D and commercial colleagues, and will manage Canadian IP litigation (innovative and generic).
The position is located at Teva Canada headquarters in Toronto or Montreal, Canada.
How you’ll spend your day
- Develop and implement generic IP strategy for Teva products in the Canadian market
- Determine patent certification, exclusivity and carve-out strategy and tactics for ANDS submissions in Canada
- Providing portfolio management and R&D with clearance advice for generic products and advise Commercial/Launch Teams on potential product launch dates
- Supporting value-generating business initiatives with patent dispute risk, avoidance, and resolution advice
- Manage Canadian patent litigation (innovative and generic), assist in development of claims and defenses
- Oversee external counsel, including work product, budget, and invoices
- Participate in and/or lead various legal tasks/projects within the greater International Markets environment when needed
- Collaborate with other regional and global Legal, Commercial, Portfolio, Regulatory and R&D leaders to ensure alignment and consistency in strategy and operations
- Foster the “Legal Tone” for our ethical behavior, integrity, compliance standards and policies
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with regulatory authorities to stay informed about changes and advocate for the company’s interests.

Your experience and qualifications
- Law degree (JD or LLB) from a reputable Canadian and admitted to practice in at least one province (admission to Ontario or Quebec preferred). Degree in life sciences-related field an asset.
- A minimum 8 years’ experience in intellectual property, in private practice or a combination of private practice and in house counsel.
- Prior experience in pharmaceutical patent opinion work is essential
- Experience litigating Canada NOC cases required. Track record of successful achievements and progression
- Must be a member in good standing of a provincial bar in Ontario and/or Quebec
- Strong communication skills
- Excellent skills in drafting and editing legal documents
- Self-starter, superior organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple tasks
- Ability to work under pressure, balancing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of healthcare, Market Trends, Regulatory, Competitors & Customer Insights
